“雞犬之聲相聞，老死不相往來”的桃花源式的理想生活方式是不存在的。

人與人的交往，難免今天親密了，明天疏淡了；今天尚為陌路人，而明天卻成為了朋友。每個人的交際圈都是一個滾動式的組合。在日常生活中，總是難免或是為了求教一個問題，或是為辦一件事情，而去拜訪一個陌生人。

給陌生人留下一個良好的印象，對于辦成事情，甚或與陌生人交上朋友至關重要。而這種良好的印象，最初始的和最直接的是你在初訪時所表現出來的禮儀和風度。禮儀表現是修養的外露，它決定了別人對你是接納尊敬，還是排斥鄙夷。

中國古代對于初訪生人有著明確的禮儀范式，周公作禮就作了一章“士相見禮”。中國的封建社會是講究“禮不下庶人”的，因此周公所作之禮沒有百姓相見之禮。今天的時代不同了，社會給予了我們人人平等的權利，禮儀也沒有了等級限制。

周公所作的“士相見禮”是很繁瑣的：士相見禮：禮物，冬天用雉雞，夏天用以雉雞制成的雉雞標本。到了主人門前要鄭重地把禮物橫捧在雙手之上，雉雞的頭朝向左方，高聲自我通報說：“在下對先生仰慕已久，早就想前來拜見，但由于彼此不熟，無人引見，因此沒能早些結交到先生。幸好某某先生讓我來拜見先生，今天才敢于到先生這里拜訪?！敝魅藙t對答說：“我對先生也是仰慕已久，幸好某某先生讓我去拜訪您，沒想到您卻屈尊降貴先來拜訪我了，這對您實在是不恭敬了，還是請您回到家里，我將跑步到您家拜訪您?！笨腿藙t對答說：“我的學識地位實在夠不上讓您這么尊重，請您能夠賜予接見?！敝魅藙t回答說：“我不敢擺架子，一定請您回到家里，我將跑步去拜見您?！笨腿藙t回答說：“我更不敢擺架子，一定請你賜予接見。”主人則回答說：“既然我這么請求您，您還堅持，那么我就只得跑步出來去拜見您了。但是聽說您帶來了禮物，我大著膽子請求您將禮物收回?！笨腿藙t回答說：“我不帶禮物，不敢空手來拜見您，那樣做對您太不尊重了?！敝魅藙t回答說：“我的學識地位與您相比，實在是慚愧，沒有資格讓您按照禮儀規范這么隆重地對待，大著膽子一定請您收回禮物?！笨腿藙t對答說：“我也是不帶著禮物，不敢求見于您，因此一定請您收下?！敝魅藙t對答說：“我這么請求您收回禮物，您仍然這么!”交際禮儀持，恭敬不如從命，那我就只得收下了?！庇谑侵魅顺鲇陂T外。主人向客拜兩拜，客人向主人回拜兩拜。主人向客還拜一揖，從門右進入廳堂?？腿藱M捧禮物從門左進入廳堂。主人向客人拜兩拜接受禮物，客人向主人拜兩拜獻上禮物。

由以上可見，古人初訪生人儀式雖嫌繁瑣，但卻是十分鄭重的，它反映了主客之間的互相尊重。言語的應對充分體現了雙方的謙下和對對方的敬重。同時也顯現了各自的美德和教養?？腿艘燥綦u作為禮物送給主人，是因為雉與贄諧音。贄是古代學生向老師繳納的學費，送雉于人是表示向人執弟子之禮，寓含著謙下之意。正如我們今天去看望病人，送一束康乃馨有祝福病人早日康泰之意一樣。至于客人所送給主人的雉雞一定要雙手橫捧雉頭向左，一是表示對自己所送禮物的重視，表示一種真心誠意的態度；二是主人由門右入，客人由門左入，進入廳堂轉身之后，雉頭恰好正對著主人，假如橫捧雉雞，雉頭向右，那么轉身之后就是雉屁股對著主人了，那樣不僅不雅，也是對主人的不敬。當然到了今天這個時代，這種虛意的客套，酸溜溜的繁文縟節已經不足為人道，但是古人的這種對待禮儀的鄭重態度還是值得我們很好地學習的。

初訪陌生人，人家對你不那么熟悉，你所表現出來的禮儀風度，顯然就是你的介紹信。人家會在你的禮儀表現中，讀出你是老成持重、謙謙有禮還是浮滑無行、驕傲自大。在現代社會初訪陌生人，也需備上一個小小的禮物，或一束鮮花，或一件小工藝品，或一幅字畫，或一盒補品。送什么要以你所初訪的對象而定。你所初訪的對象如果是位姑娘，你不妨送她一束鮮花；你所初訪的對象若是一個中年人，他恰好有一個未成年的孩子，那么你不妨送他一件小工藝品，并一定聲明是送給孩子的，要知道取悅了孩子就是取悅了孩子的爸爸媽媽；你所初訪的對象若是一個知識分子，那么你就不妨送給他一幅符合他身份的字畫，那樣他會欣喜若狂；如果你初訪的對象是位老人，你不妨送他一盒保健品，不過包裝一定要考究，并且一定要印上你無限祝福的語言。
